Johannes Lepsius helped the Armenians and documented their extermination during the First World War

The pastor and publicist Johannes Lepsius, who died 100 years ago, championed the cause of the persecuted Armenians in the Ottoman Empire like no one else in Germany. He reported on the pogroms and the genocide of the Armenian people. However, this commitment put him at odds with both state and church in the German Empire.
