The Protestant theologian Johannes Lepsius (1858–1926) was a prominent German figure in the humanitarian movement of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. His writings on the Christian Armenian minority in the Ottoman Empire provide a powerful record of his engagement with moral-political issues and contemporary ecclesiastical developments against the backdrop of efforts to homogenize populations in multi-ethnic states.
