Dirty yellow Euphrates water

It is December 1915. A battalion of Royal Bavarian Artillery Regiment 1 is taken out of the fierce fighting on the Western Front in Flanders and sent on its way to Turkey. From there, the book accompanies the soldiers on their very varied and exciting journey across Southwestern Europe, the Ottoman Empire to Kut, south of Baghdad. It consists of contributions from diaries by unit soldiers, unity documents and staffs. The soldiers repeatedly encounter the fate of the Armenian population and record it in their journals. The many pictures in which he recorded the mission come from the estate of ZahlmeisterJosef Oberndorfner.
The book documents the military, economic, social and cultural conditions within the unit and with its environment. Interested family researchers can find links to lists of unitary members from Bavaria, Germany and Turkey as well as the signatures of the documents used in Department 4 of the Munich State Archives (War Archive), as well as the maps from the Munich State Library. An extensive list of literature on the topic supplements the documentation. Most of the literature can also be viewed in the Bavarian State Library.
